Includes most of the genera formerly assigned to family Cucujidae. A key to the Cucujidae in the sense of previous authors can be found here:

   ...Cucujidae_FHL

Small to medium, elongate beetles, usually bare or with short prostrate hairs. The antennae are 11-segmented and are inserted under the sides of the frons in front of the eyes. The tarsi are 5-segmented but in some ♂♂ they are heteromerous (tarsal formula 5-5-4).
#1 Antennae almost as long as the body, with the first segment very long and rod-shaped. Second segment much shorter than the third; last segments not thickened. Disc of the elytra distinctly flattened between the keels that run back from the shoulders.

   ...2

-- Antennae at most half the length of the body with the first segment usually thickened and somewhat elongate, but not rod-shaped; second segment not or only slightly shorter than the third; usually the last three segments are thickened.

   ...3

#2 Pronotum broader than long, with the sides, in particular towards the front angles, clearly sharp-toothed.[Abb.1]. Upper surface dull.

   ...Uleiota Latreille, 1796

ULEIOTA PLANATA
Abb.1

-- Pronotum rather longer than broad, the sides rather sinuate, smooth. Upper surface of the beetle shining.

   ...Dendrophagus Schönherr, 1809

#3 Elytra quite convex in section, yellow or yellowish-brown with darker markings, with clear coarse, semi-erect hairs. Third segment of the tarsi long-lobed, the lobes extending over the small fourth segment.

   ...4

-- Elytra usually flatter, uniformly reddish-brown or black with fine prostrate or microscopic hairs. Third segment of the tarsi usually without lobes. First segment of the antennae slightly longer than the second. Last segment of the maxillary palps small, narrowed to the tip

   ...6

#4 First segment of the antennae as long as the second and third combined. Last segment of the maxillary palps large and axe-shaped. Habitus [Abb.2].

   ...Psammoecus Latreille, 1829

PSAMMOECUS BIPUNCTATUS
Abb.2

-- First segment of the antennae slightly longer than the second. Last segment of the maxillary palps small, narrowing towards the tip.

   ...5

#5 Antennae with a clearly differentiated three-segmented club; middle segments of the antennae not longer than wide. Head without a longitudinal line.

   ...Monanus Sharp, 1879

-- Antennae evenly broadening toward the tip; middle segments of the antennae longer than wide. Head with a sharply incised longitudinal line on each side. [Abb.3].

   ...Cryptamorpha Wollaston, 1854

CRYPTAMORPHA DESJARDINSI

#6 Sides of the pronotum smooth and upper surface of the pronotum shining. One imported species in Central Europe. Family Passandridae

   ...Catogenus Westwood, 1830

-- Sides of the pronotum toothed, notched or smooth, but if smooth then the upper surface is dull. Family Silvanidae.

   ...7

#7 Pronotum with six distinct blunt or pointed teeth on each side; tooth on the front angles rather conspicuous.

   ...8

-- Sides of the pronotum smooth or finely notched or with more than six fine to very fine teeth.

   ...9

#8 Lateral teeth of the pronotum blunt, lobed [Abb.4]. Head without temples.

   ...Nausibius Redtenbacher, 1858

NAUSIBIUS CLAVICORNIS

-- Lateral teeth of the pronotum pointed. [Abb.5]. Head with distinct temples behind the eyes or with the temples reduced to a small tooth.

   ...Oryzaephilus Ganglbauer, 1899

ORYZAEPHILUS SURINAMENSIS
Abb.5

#9 Sides of the pronotum with quite regular fine to very fine teeth; front angles not conspicuous. Eyes large, without temples. Upper surface black with pale hairs, exceptionally the elytra are brown.

   ...Airaphilus Redtenbacher, 1858

-- Sides of the pronotum smooth or with very fine notches. Upper surface uniformly brownish-red.

   ...10

#10 Upper surface, including the pronotum with a dull shine. Sides of the pronotum almost smooth.

   ...11

-- Upper surface, especially the pronotum dull, due to a granular sculpture, or the pronotum is coarsely punctured with the sides finely notched.

   ...12

#11 Pronotum at least as long as wide with projecting front angles. Elytra more than twice as long as wide, parallel-sided. The first segment of the 3-segmented club is as broad as the second.

   ...Cathartus Reiche, 1854

-- Pronotum broader than long with the strongly toothed front angle separated by a clear concavity. Elytra not twice as long as wide and weakly rounded at the sides. The first segment of the club is considerably narrower than the second. Habitus [Abb.6].

   ...Ahasverus Gozis, 1881.

AHASVERUS ADVENA

#12 Small species, under 4 mm. Pronotum longer than wide, dull and granular with tooth-like projecting front angles. Temples projecting as a point directly behind the eyes or a little further back. Common species.

   ...13

-- Species over 4 mm. Pronotum broader than long and coarsely punctured with rounded front angles. Temples blunt. Extremely rare species of ancient woodland. Family Languriidae (Eicolyctus Sahlb.)

   ...Zavaljus Reitter, 1880

#13 Head with ± distinct temples. [Abb.7]. Elytra parallel, twice as long as their combined width or longer.[Abb.8].
